Is GleamShare free?

Yes. There is no account, no subscription and no ads.

Do my files go through a server?

Not when you send to a nearby device: files travel directly between the two devices. Only when you choose "Send by email or link" are the files uploaded, and then they are encrypted in your browser first.

Can GleamShare send between Windows and Android?

Yes. The Windows app and the Android app use the same protocol, so they can send to each other over the same Wi-Fi. The website also works in any browser.

Is it encrypted?

Browser transfers use WebRTC, which is always encrypted. Email and link shares are end-to-end encrypted in your browser. The Windows and Android apps verify every file with SHA-256 and ask the receiver to accept; encryption for the local network is planned.

How long do email links work?

Seven days. After that the data is deleted from the server.

Why does Windows warn me when I install?

The installer is new and not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen asks for confirmation. You can compare the SHA-256 shown on the download page with your file.

Why does Android ask about unknown sources?

The Android app is installed from this website instead of an app store, so Android asks you to allow installing from your browser once.

Can I send only a link or a note, with no file?

Yes. Write it in the note box and send it to a nearby device, or send it by email or as a link.
